How To Install Vst Plugins In Pro Tools Se
28.12.2020 admin
Pro Tools uses a proprietary plug-in format called RTAS (Real Time AudioSuite) which is equivalent to the open source VST plugin format used in other sequencers such as Logic and Cubase. As anyone can create their own VSTs and release them to the public, there are literally thousands of VST plugins out there, ranging in price from free to remarkably expensive. As there is no quality control system on these plugins, their usefulness also varies a lot – but at least for the free plugins, you don’t have much to lose by giving them a go. For Pro Tools users, however, there are still a few ways to expand your RTAS plugin arsenal on the cheap…
Free RTAS Plugins – Yes, They Do Exist
Although thin on the ground, there are a few free RTAS plugins to be had if you know where to look.VST Shell X (free) load your VSTi & your VST plugins but maybe quite outdated. Ok then, where should you start? The method is simple: 1°) Download Jack Here. 2°) Install Jack. 3°) Restart your computer. 4°) Go to your applications folder & launch JackPilot in your Jack folder.
Pro Tools does come with some nifty plugins out of the box, but if you want to grab a few more then try these:
To hide certain plug-ins from Pro Tools, simply move the plug-in to the 'Plug-Ins (Unused)' folder. The next time you open Pro Tools, only the plug-ins remaining in the “Plug-Ins” folder will show up in Pro Tools and any plug-ins moved to the “Plug-Ins (Unused)” folder will not be shown. Go to my computer, click on C: drive and navigate to that folder and see if it’s there, if not then see if there’s a VST Plugins folder in C:Program Files. These are the two standard places to look. Tip: If you have two hard drives or partitions it’s an idea to create a folder here and add it to your DAWs vst folder list. —-Install. Pro Tools doesn't support VST plugins, though there is a way to get it working. Pro Tools 8 LE uses RTAS plugins (though RTAS has officially been replaced with AAX for newer versions), but you can use you can use software like FXpansion's VST to RTAS adapter to host VST plugins in Pro Tools. Pro Tools usually rescans your plugins for you when it launches, but your new plugin might not be on the list. You can’t do a manual rescan in Pro Tools like you can in other DAWs, but there’s still a way that you can force the system to do a rescan.

Free RTAS Plugins From VST – Time To Wrap Up
If you really want to use VST plugins with your Pro Tools rig, there is a way – you can get yourself a wrapper program that acts as an interface between the VST and Pro Tools itself.
You can buy this program from FXpansion for about €75, and once it’s installed then you can call up your VSTs in Pro Tools just like you would your usual RTAS Plugins.
You can read about my experience with the Fxpansion wrapper program in this post about my VST to RTAS wrapping adventures.
Hi there !
It's been quite a long time since I had the idea to write an article about a burning subject like Is it possible to use VST plugins with Protools ?
The short answer is No.
The complete answer is Yes but you'll have to cheat a little bit Protools to do so. In fact there are plenty of methods available depending on the software you want to use and the budget you have for that.

I am not pretending my method is better than the others, BUT what I say is that this works fine with Protools 8/9/10 so far, it's free and if you use it, you'll be able to import tons ad tons of free VST plugins directly in your favorite Protools software.
Otherwise you can Rewire / route your VST plugins / audio in Protools with a lot of softwares such as :
Bidule / Plogue (95$) works like a charm with plugins & instruments + is very versatile but can be a little complicated for newbies..
See how in the video below.
HostX (free) load your VSTi only
Reaper (free for 30 days) works like a charm with plugins & instruments
SoundFlower (free) Route any audio in your Protools like Logic Audio, Cubase etc.. create your audio / midi config & you can play your AU or VST instruments directly in Protools
Ugly VST Interface (free) load your VSTi only
Vst In Pro Tools 12
VSTLord (free) load your VSTi fast & easy, just need to create audio / midi configuration and you're good to go
Watch the video below to see how to do it
VST Shell X (free) load your VSTi & your VST plugins but maybe quite outdated.
